James J. Briley, 91, of Springville died Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his residence. Briley was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Bemis to the late Jim and Willie Pirtle Briley. He married July 20, 1946, to Faye Singleton Briley, and she survives. Briley retired after working many years as a supervisor at the Bemis Cotton Mill in Bemis. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, growing a garden and duck hunting. He is also survived by two sons, James Ronnie (Ruby) and Mike (Evon) Briley, both of Springville; four grandchildren: Jonathon Briley of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Jason Briley of Springville, Kim Mays of Decaturville and Dawn Allen of Jackson; three great-granddaughters: Layla and Natalie Briley, both of Paris, and Makenzie Briley of Springville; a sister, Nancy (James) Knolton of McKenzie; two brothers, David (Nell) and Jack (Pat) Briley, both of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Beverly Briley of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Mays; a son-in-law, Barney Mays; four sisters: Alice Briley, Lucille Ward, Marcella Wooley and Ella Sue Lowrance; and two brothers, Gerald and John Briley. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Oakdale Funeral Home, 401 Hwy. 641 North in Camden, is handling the arrangements.
