Delbert Gene Ellis

Delbert Gene Ellis, age 89, of Westport, TN, passed from this life and on to his eternal home with Jesus on Saturday, December 8^th, 2018.  Delbert is survived by his wife, Margie (Brinkley) Ellis, his daughter Linda (Scott) Klingler of Hodgenville, KY, his daughter Lisa (Robert) Peery of Buena Vista, TN, his son, Donald Ellis of Holladay, TN, his grandchildren, Delana (Jeff) Simon, Kayla (Jason) McDonald, Robert (Bobby) Peery, Jonathan (Scott) Peery, Daniel (Courtney) Ellis, Brent Ellis, his great-grandchildren, Shayla (Austin) Schramer, Shayna (Michael) Wix, Jeremiah Maynard, Lindsey and Jared McDonald, Akin and Raegan Ellis, and his great-great-grandchild, Kamryn Schramer.  Delbert is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Ellis and his mother Clara (Parish) Ellis, his brothers Dewayne and Wilbur Ellis, his sister Peggy Ann Parker, his sons Robert Scott and Ricky Lynn Ellis, and his daughter-in-law Betty (Baker) Ellis. 

Delbert was born in Yuma, TN and moved to Benton County, TN when he was nineteen years old.  He lived the rest of his life in Benton County.  He was married to his bride Margie in 1949 and they lived lovingly and faithfully together for seventy years.  Together they had five children, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. 

Delbert loved his family, always kept them in the forefront of his heart and mind, and he worked hard to support them.  He worked as a farmer, a sawyer, cutting timber, and as a highly-skilled mechanic.  Through the fruits of his labor, Delbert was also able to bless his neighbors and friends with gifts from his farm.  People also came from near and far for his hand-made sausage.

In his final weeks, Delbert spoke to his family many times, telling them about the importance of standing together, reading God’s Word, and loving each other unconditionally.

Delbert loved his neighbors and his door was always open for friends and neighbors to visit. 

Visitation for Delbert Ellis will be from 4 pm until 9 pm on Tuesday, December 11^th at Oakdale Funeral Home in Camden, TN.  The funeral service will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, December 12^th at Oakdale Funeral Home.  Both services are open to all who wish to attend.  Delbert will be laid to rest at Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Westport, TN.
